I(Chanda) am deathly afraid of heights to the point that I don’t even like to stand on a chair, but I decided to visit Taipei 101 building despite this. I admit that I had to give myself a big pep talk and hype myself up to go, but I did persevere.

As I walked out of the subway station I looked up and saw the building. It looked like a mountain rising from the ground straight through the clouds. It’s impressive to look at, especially this close up.
To get to the observatory deck you have to walk through the mall and go up several escalators. It was still early so I didn’t have to wait at all and I was able to take my time going through the museum area.

Despite my fear of heights, I was still able to enjoy the views from the tower. Thankfully, it was a clear day so I had an unobstructed view of the city and it was beautiful. Wherever you turn to look you are greeted with mountains and an amazing cityscape. Since it wasn’t crowded I stayed a little longer and enjoyed the views. While a night view would offer an amazing view as well I don’t think you would be able to enjoy it as much because it would be a lot busier.

After walking through the tower there is an area of red coral jewelry and other items but they are a little pricey. A sales lady tried to get me to buy some jewelry, but when I saw the price I smiled and almost ran out. I didn’t have red coral money, sorry lady.

The elevator to go down is just as fast going up. We went from the 89th floor to the 5th in about 45 seconds, which did make my stomach flip a few times but at least it was over quickly. What’s also interesting about the elevator is that there are changing lights throughout the ride and a voice in 4 languages explaining the change in air pressure and thanking you for your visit.

After leaving the tower I walked towards a park that was about a 15-minute walk away and I got a picture-perfect view of the tower. Even far away it looks impressive.
The Taipei 101 building is a must-see if you visit Taipei. Even if you aren’t able to stay long in the city you can get a view of its amazing cityscape.
